The bad, the number of people with diabetes has grown 3 million over the last two years to top out at 24 million. That is eight percent of the population. Awareness is growing, 25 percent are unaware of their affliction compared to 30 percent previously. It still disproportionately hits the elderly and minorities. 25 percent of elederly have diabetes and there stills is double the rates of minorities to whites of the disease. While it doesn’t go into causes it still shows that there is great need for prevention, diagnosis and treatment in many areas of the population
